			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The<em> Financial Times</em> interviews <a href="http://www.ft.com/cms/s/2/652828ec-fbe0-11de-9c29-00144feab49a.html" target="_blank">Stewart Brand</a> of the <em>Whole Earth Catalog</em>, now 71 years old. &#8220;His latest project is <em>Whole Earth Discipline</em>, a book that attacks what he sees as the romantic, anti-science strain of environmentalism. Its four themes might have been chosen as deliberate provocations to back-to-the-land hippiedom. If the Earth is to be saved, Brand argues, it will require mass urbanisation, a shift to nuclear power, genetically modified or &#8216;genetically engineered&#8217; foods (all foodstuffs, he says, are genetically modified), and geo-engineering: directly modifying the planet’s climate.&#8221;</p>
